Bonenkai and Year-End Party Venues in Tokyo and Bangkok

Bonenkai and Year-End Party Venues in Tokyo and Bangkok

In Tokyo, December is bōnenkai season — the year-end "forget-the-year" parties every Japanese company holds — and in Bangkok it's peak season in the city's coolest, driest month. Both cities' best party venues fill early, so book by October for December dates. Here are venues with real character in each city, and the norms worth knowing.

Tokyo

  • Billboard Live Tokyo — a premium live-music venue in Tokyo Midtown with tiered seating and full production; a buyout makes a spectacular year-end show.
  • Blue Note Place — a live-music dining space from the Blue Note family in Ebisu, for a jazz-inflected company dinner.
  • CÉ LA VI Tokyo — rooftop club-lounge atop Tokyu Plaza Shibuya, with the skyline at your feet.
  • WOMB — one of Tokyo's most famous clubs, in the backstreets of Shibuya, available for buyouts and after-parties.
  • teamLab Planets TOKYO — immersive digital art in Toyosu; an experience rather than a dinner.
  • Sumida Aquarium — at the foot of Tokyo Skytree, for a calm, visually striking reception.

Bōnenkai norms. Japanese year-end parties typically run around two hours with a set course and an all-you-can-drink (nomihōdai) plan, often followed by a nijikai second venue. If you're hosting a Japanese team, plan the timing and the second stop explicitly rather than leaving it open.

Bangkok

  • Lhong 1919 — a restored 1850s Chinese mansion-pier on the Chao Phraya, one of the city's most atmospheric settings for a dinner.
  • Nai Lert Park Heritage Home — a heritage house in a private garden in the middle of the city.
  • Warehouse 30 — WWII-era warehouses in the Charoenkrung creative district, for a party with a creative edge.
  • Central: The Original Store — Central Group's restored 1950s flagship, with gallery and event floors.
  • Museum Siam — a neoclassical building in the old town, with lawns used for evening receptions.
  • Above Eleven — a rooftop on Sukhumvit Soi 11, a staple for corporate mixers and after-parties.

Why December in Bangkok works. It's the start of the cool, dry season, which makes riverside and outdoor venues dependable — and also why it's the city's busiest month for events and visitors. Lock dates and riverside venues early.

What to check in both cities

  • Buyout or semi-private. Clubs and live venues may offer full buyouts only on certain nights; ask what's available before you set the date.
  • Minimum spend versus rental. Many unique venues price by minimum spend. Clarify what counts toward it.
  • Finish times. Live-music and rooftop venues have fixed curfews. Build the programme backward from the hard stop.
  • Transport home. Late December finishes mean busy trains and taxis. Coaches or a venue near a station saves the end of the night.

When should we book a December party venue in Tokyo or Bangkok? By October. December is peak season in both cities, and distinctive venues go first.

Is December a good month for outdoor events in Bangkok? Yes — it's the start of the cool, dry season, which makes riverside and garden venues reliable. That's also why it's busy, so book early.
